David Guth is Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Centerstone, one of the nation’s largest behavioral healthcare providers. The non-profit organization, headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, serves nearly 142,000 individuals in facilities in Florida, Illinois, Indiana and Tennessee, and nationwide through our national provider network.

Guth has served in the capacity of chief executive for Centerstone since 1991. With 40 years of behavioral healthcare experience, 32 in executive leadership, his experience and expertise comprise a vast number of areas, both business and clinical. He has presented extensively before national and international audiences on the adoption of information technology in the healthcare industry, the integration of behavioral and primary healthcare, and the importance of improving the field of behavioral health through research-driven protocols. His insights on these topics and others have been featured in numerous professional journals.

The National Council for Behavioral Health published Guth’s first book in 2013 (now available in second edition since 2014) on mergers entitled, “Strategic Unions: A Marriage Guide to Healthy Not-for-Profit Mergers.” He has provided merger presentations through both the National Council and state trade associations and has consulted extensively with not-for-profits exploring mergers and with both for-profits and not-for profits in the areas of managing growth and business development. He is currently working on his second book entitled “Nonprofit Governance.”

Under Mr. Guth’s guidance, in 2013 Centerstone announced a joint venture with Unity Physician Partners to improve patient care and enhance the quality of healthcare across the U.S., by creating an environment in which primary care and mental health providers operate within a collaborative and co-located clinical model. Unity Medical Clinics are embedded within select Centerstone facilities today offering coordinated, whole-health care.

He is the recipient of numerous recognitions including the National Council 2010 Visionary Leadership award, and is recognized as one of Health Care’s Power Leaders in the March 2013 Nashville Business Journal.

Guth received his BA in Mathematics from Vanderbilt University and his MSSW in Social Work Administration and Planning from the University of Tennessee.

Monica E. Oss, M.S. is the founder of OPEN MINDS and serves as its chief executive officer, executive editor of its publications and websites, and executive lead of its consulting engagements. For the past three decades, Ms. Oss has led the OPEN MINDS team and its research on health and human service market trends and its national consulting practice.  She is well known for her numerous books and articles focused on the strategic and marketing implications of the evolving health and human service field – and its focus on the verticals of the field serving consumers with chronic conditions and complex support needs.

Ms. Oss has extensive experience in developing and implementing growth strategies for a wide array of organizations in the field. She has expertise in industry trend analysis, reimbursement and rate setting, and creating actionable plans for market success. In her role, she has led numerous engagements with state Medicaid plans, county governments, private insurers, and health plans, service provider organizations, technology vendors, neurotechnology and pharmaceutical organizations, and investment banking firms – with a focus on the implications of financing changes on delivery system design.

Prior to founding OPEN MINDS, Ms. Oss served as an executive with a nationally managed behavioral health organization, responsible for market development, actuarial analysis, and capitation-based rate setting. She also held a position as vice president of the U.S. risk management and underwriting division of an international insurance company.

Ms. Oss has been the keynote speaker at the conferences of dozens of national associations and has been published in a wide range of professional journals and trade publications. She has provided Congressional and state legislative testimony on issues as diverse as the financial impact of parity and payer medication access policies.

Ms. Oss has led a range of industry research and consultation initiatives, serving as principal investigator on research projects that include the examination of national managed care enrollment and service patterns, development of provider rate structures for government entities, creation of return-on-investment models for technology investments; design of performance-based compensation models within public and private health plans; and analysis of the economic impact of changes in benefit design, adoption of evidence-based practices, and new technologies.

Mike joined Mosaic in 2013. He brings more than 15 years’ experience in the regulatory and legal field. Prior to joining Mosaic, he served for 10 years as corporate counsel for a major health insurance company specializing in privacy and security issues, complex business arrangements and health care reform. In his role at Mosaic, Mike oversees the legal and compliance teams. He holds a bachelor of arts from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana and a juris doctor from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.

Linda’s 33-year career began in high school working at Bethphage Village at Axtell, Neb. Through the years she has held numerous positions within the organization, working in Nebraska, Texas and Colorado. When Mosaic was formed in 2003, Linda was named Senior Vice President of Program Services. In 2006, she was named President and Chief Operating Officer. She became Mosaic’s President and Chief Executive Officer in 2008. She holds a bachelor of arts from the University of Nebraska at Kearney, in Kearney, Nebraska and a master of arts from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. Linda is the past board chair of Lutheran Services in America and the Council on Quality and Leadership.

Laura H. Tyler, Ph.D., LPC, serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer for Ozark Guidance. When the Board of Directors chose her to lead the nonprofit community mental health center in 2017, it was a bit of a homecoming. Dr. Tyler was raised in Northwest Arkansas and attended the University of Arkansas for undergraduate and graduate studies. She started her professional career with Ozark Guidance in 1983 and worked with the organization for over 15 years.

She completed her doctoral work in Health Services Organization and Research at the Virginia Commonwealth University. Prior to working exclusively in health care administration, she provided direct care services as a Licensed Professional Counselor. She has worked in a variety of behavioral health settings across her career and also has experience in service delivery to individuals with developmental disorders.

For approximately ten years before she became the Ozark Guidance Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Tyler worked for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). Her most recent role at UAMS was that of Chief Integration Officer and Associate Vice Chancellor. While there, she had the privilege of working with the leadership team that launched the Psychiatric Research Institute, which offers traditional outpatient services, community-based services and brought general and specialized inpatient psychiatric care back to UAMS after a hiatus of approximately 30 years.

Prior to her time at UAMS, Dr. Tyler worked at Avita Community Partners in a 13-county service area at northeast Georgia. There she served as the behavioral health director, then chief executive officer.

Dr. Tyler has consistently advocated for individuals with mental illness and addictive disorders to be best understood as experiencing symptoms of health conditions that deserve an integrated treatment approach rather than segregation and stigmatization. While she has seen remarkable progress in treatment alternatives, she firmly believes there is substantially more advancement that needs to be accomplished to ensure compassionate quality care is accessible and delivered in a cost effective manner. Her philosophy is that this can best be accomplished by hard work, collaboration and an inter-professional team approach.

A native of Eureka Springs, Laura and her husband Mark, who teaches mathematics, have two adult sons.
